Dato' Sri Siti Nurhaliza - Anta Permana English Translation

Songwriters: Ezra Kong and Hael Husaini Anta Permana / Ad Infinitum Stream of consciousness the heart’s melody Heart and soul that complements each other Just like, just like the sun’s heat A true love Out of sight (but) close to the heart If it is yearned (then) don’t stray To where, to where will it go Being tried, tested Oh when awoken everything is A border of illusions Even if the stars wouldn’t shine anymore As long as the love wouldn’t be betrayed Even if my last breath is drawn I’ll still love you For I am sure You’re irreplaceable Even the tongue can be bitten (by the teeth) Even more the love of mortals Being swayed, swayed by the winds Accompanying your love Oh when awoken everything is A border of illusions Even if the stars wouldn’t shine anymore As long as the love wouldn’t be betrayed Even if my last breath is drawn I’ll still love you For I am sure You’re irreplaceable Let the consideration, love a...

Adira Suhaimi - Ku Ada Kamu English Translation

Lyrics by: Edry Abdul Halim

Ku Ada Kamu / I Have You

When I am lost in the darkness
You help shine the guiding light
When I am sad you put a smile on my face
Consoling me with a heart full of patience
You would catch me every time I fall

If tomorrow the sky falls
Let us persevere in holding it up together
If tomorrow the world becomes turbulent
Never will I waver as long as I have you

When I am unsure
You step in with resolve
Helping me to be more confident
And when life is full of questions
You give me the answers
Filling in all the gaps
You would catch me every time I fall

It’s impossible for me to be able to
Live without your support

If tomorrow the sky falls
Let us persevere in holding it up together
If tomorrow the world becomes turbulent
Never will I waver as long as I have you

If tomorrow the sky falls
Let us persevere in holding it up together
If tomorrow the world becomes turbulent
Never will I waver as long as I have you

As long as I have you.

Original Malay Lyrics

Di kala ku kehilangan di dalam kegelapan,

Kau suluhkan sinar petunjuk,
Di kala ku kesedihan,
kau ukirkan senyuman,
Dengan penuh sabar memujuk,
Engkau menyambut tiap kali aku terjatuh.

Andai hari esok langit akan runtuh,
Tabahlah menjunjung bersamaku,
Andai hari esok dunia gelora,
Takkan ku gemuruh selagi ku ada kamu.

Di kala aku tak pasti,
Kau tampil dengan berani,
Membimbing agar lebih yakin,
Dan bila hidup penuh soalan,
Kau berikan jawapan,
Melengkap semua kekurangan…

Engkau menyambut tiap kali aku terjatuh,

Andai hari esok langit akan runtuh,
Tabahlah menjunjung bersamaku,
Andai hari esok dunia gelora,
Takkan ku gemuruh selagi ku ada kamu.

Tidak mungkin diri ini mampu,
Hidup tanpa doronganmu,

Andai hari esok langit akan runtuh,
Tabahlah menjunjung bersamaku,
Andai hari esok dunia gelora,
Takkan ku gemuruh selagi ku ada kamu.

Andai hari esok langit akan runtuh,
Tabahlah menjunjung bersamaku,
Andai hari esok dunia gelora,
Takkan ku gemuruh selagi ku ada kamu.

Selagi ku ada kamu.

My thoughts while translating...

When I first heard this song, it reminded me a lot of the song “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion. Of course, not because of the music but because of the lyrics’ meanings. This song is a 2010 release by the then-new singer named Adira Suhaimi after she became the eighth season’s first runner-up on one of Malaysia’s top audition reality program at the time called Akademi Fantasia. I wasn’t exactly a loyal follower of that show but I did notice that this lady had such an interesting way of singing with her husky voice and she also has a very powerful vocal.

As I’ve said earlier, this song has the same type of feeling that I get when I listen to “Because You Loved Me”. It’s of gratification for the support, and guidance of a special someone. Since the pronoun is general, that someone can be in the form of parents, family, spouse, friends or lover. Nevertheless, to have that someone as your light when in the dark is definitely an invaluable blessing. Now that I think about it, this song is also similar to “You Raise Me Up”, another favourite song of mine, though the feeling I get from “You Raise Me Up” is more towards parents or guardians.

While translating, there’s this one line of the song where I had to think and rethink on what word to use to properly convey the word’s or the whole line’s meaning. It’s “Kau tampil dengan berani.” If taking into consideration of only this one line, it literally means ‘you step in with courage’ but when reading the whole verse, I think it is more fitting to translate it as ‘you step in with resolve’. Compared to ‘courage’, I think the word ‘resolve’ is more appropriate as the line before that is stating the person’s uncertainty in making a decision and so, the opposite of indecision are firmness, resolution or determination which I concluded as ‘resolve’.

This song, to me, is such a warm song that gives tribute to people that become a supporting pillar to others and I think it’s important to show these people appreciation for doing what they do without asking for returns.
