Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza – Seindah Biasa English Translation
Lyrics by: Pongky Jikustik
Seindah Biasa / As Beautiful As Always
Don’t ever be afraid of me leaving you
The moment when the stars stop singing
The moment when the night gets too cold
To the extent the morning is not as beautiful as always
It’s impossible for us to bear
Going through life alone
Scorching heat storming rain
We face it together
The moment when I lost my direction
You would know where to go
Whether it be bright or dark
We face it together
I can’t change the things that has already happened
But I’ll promise to do my very best
So that we will never grew apart
Even if we have different destinations to go to
It’s impossible for us to bear
Going through life alone
Scorching heat storming rain
We face it together
The moment when I lost my direction
You would know where to go
Whether it be bright or dark
We face it together
We once had fallen
And tried to stand up
Enduring the pain and crying
But the meaning of life is more than that
And we tried to fight back
It’s impossible for us to bear
Going through life alone
Scorching heat storming rain
We face it together
It’s impossible for us to bear
Going through life alone
Scorching heat storming rain
We face it together
The moment when I lost my direction
You would know where to go
Whether it be bright or dark
We face it together
We face it together
We face it together.
Original Malay lyrics
Jangan pernah takut ku tinggalkan
Saat bintang tak mampu lagi berdendang
Saat malam menjadi terlalu dingin
Hingga pagi tak seindah biasanya
Takkan mungkin kita bertahan
Hidup dalam bersendirian
Panas terik hujan badai
Kita lalui bersama
Saat hilang arah tujuan
Kau tahu ke mana berjalan
Meski terang meski gelap
Kita lalui bersama
Ku tak bisa merubah yang telah terjadi
Tapi aku akan menjanjikan yang terbaik
Agar kita tak pernah menjadi jauh
Meski beza dermaga untuk kita berlabuh
Takkan mungkin kita bertahan
Hidup dalam bersendirian
Panas terik hujan badai
Kita lalui bersama
Saat hilang arah tujuan
Kau tahu ke mana berjalan
Meski terang meski gelap
Kita lalui bersama
Pernah kita jatuh
Mencuba berdiri
Menahan sakit dan menangis
Tapi erti hidup lebih dari itu
Dan kita mencuba melawan
Takkan mungkin kita bertahan
Hidup dalam bersendirian
Panas terik hujan badai
Kita lalui bersama...
Takkan mungkin kita bertahan
Hidup dalam bersendirian
Panas terik hujan badai
Kita lalui bersama
Saat hilang arah tujuan
Kau tahu ke mana berjalan
Meski terang meski gelap
Kita lalui bersama
Kita lalui bersama
Kita lalui bersama.

My 2 cents thoughts while translating...
This song is definitely one of my favorite Siti Nurhaliza
song growing up. To be honest, Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza has been and always will be
my most favourite Malaysian singer. I’ve always felt that her golden voice is no
doubt one of Malaysia’s most precious treasures. Or perhaps even Asia’s. So
anyway, this song has a very catchy melody and with its uplifting lyrics, it becomes
one of Dato’ Siti’s most popular songs.
When I read the lyrics again while
translating, I realized that the song is very universal(?) haha. Other than between lovers or married couples,
this song is also meant between friends, acquaintances or even strangers that
have some kind of connections with you in life. Well, since everyone will go
through hardships in their life, right? Some people may face difficulty in
things that might seem easy to other people and some people may find ease in
things that might seem difficult to other people. But one thing is for sure. Everyone
is fighting their own battle. Though it may not seem like it to others. So just
be kind, really. We definitely don’t need more hatred in this world.
For this song, I mostly translate it literally because the
words and sentences are quite straightforward in its meaning. Except for one
line though. In the third verse of the song which is after the first chorus, I translated
the last line of the verse, “Meski beza dermaga untuk kita berlabuh” into “Even
if we have different destinations to go to”. The literal meaning of the line is
“even if we have different docks for us to dock into.” ………..It sounds so weird
and…well, not really as pleasing to hear as it was in Malay. Maybe it is my own
incompetence for not being able to find other words for ‘dermaga’ or ‘berlabuh’
in English but for now, those were the only words that came to my mind when I tried
to translate the line. Oh welp.
Edit: I found another word for ‘dermaga’ which is ‘wharf’. “Even
if we have different wharves for us to dock into”…hmm… well, I decided to just
stick to its connotative meaning haha.
